UK election printing guide

Election Postcard Printing Guide

Choose and prepare election postcards for campaign handouts, door drops and mail.

Practical production guidance for UK campaigns. Rules and requirements can differ by election and location; check the current official guidance that applies to your material.

Election postcards prepared for campaign distribution

Postcards create a compact, durable format for a single campaign message, contact route and appropriate imprint. Good postcard artwork is clear on both sides and designed around the actual finished size.

UK campaign print reminder

This guide is designed for UK print buyers. It does not replace election, advertising, planning or legal advice for a particular location, election or campaign.

Choose the postcard format

A6 is a compact 105 × 148mm format that works for handouts and concise door-drop messages. DL is narrower at 99 × 210mm and can suit a more linear layout. Choose the format that fits the message, not just the cheapest sheet.

Plan both sides deliberately

If printing double-sided, decide what a reader should see first and what information belongs on the reverse. Do not treat the back as spare space: leave room for contact details, a call to action and any imprint that is needed.

Select stock for the intended use

Card stock gives a more substantial feel than a light leaflet, but the appropriate stock depends on budget, distribution method and the artwork. Check the live product options for the available material and finish.

Supply print-ready artwork

Use images at suitable resolution, allow bleed and keep important text inside the safe area. Export a proofread PDF where possible. Artwork is reviewed for obvious production issues, but responsibility for legal campaign content remains with the customer.
